In addition to our top four awards that we announced on December 6, VeloNews Awards went to a host of other categories. Here's the people and events from 1997 that we found worthy of mention: 
 
 BEST TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT (ROAD) 
Cees Beers could be found near the Telekom team van throughout this year's Tour de France. The Dutch designer spent much of his time talking to mechanics and the team's two leaders, Jan Ullrich and Bjarne Riis, who spent much of this year's Tour on Beers's ADA all-carbon-fiber wheels. Beers managed to construct a traditional-looking wheel completely out of carbon: rim, hub and spokes. Ullrich seemed pleased and after a few tweaks used them with great success on the Tour's most mountainous stages.
